help me pick what oil vicosity

Sirs,
I have a 1986 Pontiac firebird s/e w/ a LG4 engine with 130K highway miles. I just put in a used Comp Cams 260H cam, and a Edelbrock 2101 intake. What oil viscosity should I run, after I break this cam in? I'm going to use a synthetic brand.

Whatever the oil cap says. 10W-30 if memory serves.

If you aren't doing what manufacturer suggests then it Depends on climate and load.

VI, I wasn't sure which way to go, due to the 130K miles, and the performance stuff that was put on this car. Vanilla Ice, that's pretty funny, at least you're not riding around a 5.0 stang, anymore.

Re: help me pick what oil vicosity

I don't believe in running thicker oil just because an engine has a lot of miles (if that's what you're thinking).

I have an engine that just turned 440k miles in my daily driver (it's not a SBC) and still use the recommended 15w-40. The engine uses a quart of oil every 4000k miles. I figure it's lasted this long, why change?

Put what the oil cap says in it. (10W-30 most likely) Don't outsmart yourself.

Re: help me pick what oil vicosity

Even though I still change my oil and filter fairly often I use this.
I always do a lot of research on products for my car before buying them. This has 5 stars reviews every where I looked.

and this.
Its the "tall" filter # M1-302. Its for Chevy Trucks but fits our cars perfectly.
You always fill the filter before installation. The filter alone holdes almost a quart.
