91 Won't Start-- Can't Hear a new Fuel Pump that worked at one time
This is my father-in-law's car that he has not run in a few years. After running in 2014 it sits in the car port now rusting away. The last thing he tried was an anti-theft bypass device. Before that, it ran with a couple of new injectors installed.
So, here's what we did. 1) Search forums for similar problems 2) Siphoned out old gas and put in 5 new gallons. Crank but no start unless spaying fuel into intake. 2) Checked the fuel pump fuse that is near the battery and those in the fuse box-- these were all good 3) Changed the fuel pump module under the hood. Still cannot hear the fuel pump when I turn the key. The engine turns over and runs if we spray fuel into the intake. Security lights go out as designed.
I suspect that there is a problem with the fuel pump, but we're not quite savvy enough to check fuel pressure under the hood (don't know where to hook up).
He and his brother changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump at the same time years ago and had a hard time. We've seen how people cut out a metal door to reach the fuel pump without taking out the gas tank. Is this the next step?
Please advise.

Hmmm, ok. There was no IROC in 91. Does it have 8 injectors (TPI) or 2 under an air filter (TBI)?

If it's a tpi motor there's a check valve the the rear of the passenger side rail covered with what looks like a steel valve stem caps. Pull the vacuum line to the regulator which is just under the top intake plenum in same location, and test pressure. Have you tried the fuel pump relay?

Re: 91 Won't Start-- Can't Hear a new Fuel Pump that worked at one time
had the same problem. 305 tbi. pulled the fuel line from the back of the block. no fuel. pulled the fuel line from fuel filter. still no pressure. it was obvious, it would just drip. no squirt or anything. ripped the tank out. it was a brand new fuel pump. it had been in there a year and a half, and the car hadn't been driven much. but, every piece of rubber on it was literally goo. might need a new one. i showed the guys at advanced auto what became of mine, and they replaced it for free since i had gotten it there just over a year ago. hope this helps. good luck.
