89 GTA won't start. Engine don't turn over and I hear a "click"

Hello all,

just bought a black on black, 1989 Pontiac Trans AM GTA with a 350TPI in it on may 2 of this year, and since I came back home with it, it doesn't want to start anymore...

The guy I bought it from said it did that every once in a while and that when waiting a little and trying to start it again, it will eventually start...

Well, I've been trying to start it for 2 days now... All the light goes on in the dash when turning the key, I can hear the fuel pump and then when I go, it only do a "click" sound.

The battery and starter are like not even 2 years old and been used for like under 1200 miles... The previous owner gave me various invoices and it does seem valid.

I'm no mechanic, what should I do or have someone do on my car?

My birthday is on may 6, if I could get it started by then that would be awesome lol.

Thanks all!

Check the wiring at the starter, the battery connections (clean them, make sure they are tight) and check the ground at the engine back to the battery. Odds are if you have some one try to crank while you jiggle wires you will find your issue. You may also have more issues when hot than when cold. I'd probably toss a new starter in eventually, something like a mini starter is $$$ well spent especially when you have to lift a new one up under the car!

Helps to only ask the same question in one Dept , then everyone knows what is being said
and how the diagnosis is progressing

Ultimately should have been posted in the Electrical section seeing it is a " electrical " problem

check ur relays under the hood. 3 small black boxes with wires go to them. mounted to the firewall(right side of steering shaft). open them check for rust and corrosion.

Do any of them have anything to do with the starter problem being discussed here?
