1988 Iroc-z28 5.7l fresh rebuild no start

OK so I just rebuilt this engine it did run before but sat for 15 years and all the gaskets were rotted aswell as fp reg. was deteriated. So I just got the engine sat back into the car and wired up was going to fire it up before completeing everything else but, it will not fire and back fires out tpi, I have double checked the timing, and even doubted myself so I turned the dist. 180 degrees just to finds that makes it back fire out the exhaust any Ideas?

im assuming you have a thouroughly neglected TPI car , now , id do this ,check the static time of the engine , you mentioned trying to start it without having everything hooked up , that might be an issue , good luck and hit us up with your progress

when I mentioned everything not being hooked up I meant as in the alternator, power steering pump nothing to do with the engine running, as far as neglected yes it was! but now has pretty much everything brand new except the block. Now I did get it fired up and running very smoothly, just turned out to be air trapped in the fuel lines once I used the Schrader valve to bleed them it fired up and ran smoothly.
