have this cams on my shelf, what to use?
ok.
going to give you my dilemma.
I have 3 camshaft to choose form, for my drag race 400 +030 engine 2 bolt mains.
eagle crank, hypereutectic pistons and I-beam rods.
alu heads 210 runners roller rockers. springs are 150/360.
carburator 950
car used only on for drag race 1/8 mile
so my cams I can use is this:
Comp cams 292XFI HR-13 hydraulic roller
adv: 292/300
@050: 242/248
lift: .584/.579
lobe sep: 113
no name CC6F mechanical roller
adv: 305/310
@050: 260/270
lift: .630/.630
lobe sep: 106
melling 22301 Hydraulic flat tappet
adv: 288/288
@050: 232/232
lift: .576/.576
lobe sep: 108
well I tend to use the XFI cam. but would like your opinion!

that is a Doug Herbert Cam.
If I use that one I have to change valve springs, maybe.

What is your compression ratio? The second cam is the better match for a 400 sbc but it needs higher compression. You will need a much higher static compression ratio to get between 8.0 and 8.5 dynamic compression ratio. That when using pump gas.
Good luck.
Good luck.

What gearing / trans type / tire size / car weight?
If all of that is right, then the 2nd cam without a doubt.
have to change valve springs?.....yes, more than "maybe".

car is 1200-1300 kg
tires 32 inch high
rear end 5.80
powerglide trans.
you all like the cam I am afraid is going to put my crank down on track.
remember this is a 2 bolt block.

You'll still need a stout valvetrain and 150 psi on the seat for those XFI lobes.

And stud the mains it wont drop the crank, its not gonna need much higher than 6500-6700 rpm either
If you went xfi hyd roller still need to change springs

..and what torque converter are you running?
very important factor, especially for 1/8th mile.

my corverter is a Hughes Performance Pro II
I am happy with this one so far.
about the 1/8 mile, there will be some 1/4 mile also, with a different rear end.
