Hello everyone my name is matt i just found this forum and pumped i did this is my first of many post. I had always been a import guy. Til just recently i came across this camaro my buddy friend had this sitting in his yard since 2011 said i would give him $200 and he took it. so we had it towed home he told me it has a 350 swap fully reinforced for frame. new torsion bar stab links bagged in the rear fiber glass cowl hood and much more he could not tell me where the motor came from or type of transmission said it was running when he parked it and thats it ........well my and my buddy have been working on this car since saturday we have put in new plugs, starter, oil, gas, cleaned the carb inside and out adjust the choke and she started right up we let her side for and hour and a half orso just running at idle took her out for a quick test ride and the power was way better then any honda or import LOVE IT but in 3 minutes she just died totally shut off let her sit for a little bit started her up again just made it to the house and she cut off again grabbed a new altenator (we were told the old one came out of a c10) put it in went out for another run about 8 minutes in to this run she died again went thru replaced a ton of spilt wires everywhere tighten up loose connections and vacuum lines .So we let her sit in the driveway for over 2 hours rev up the rpms and checking it over and over again and she didnt stall once we go out for another ride and she is full boar 10 minutes in just cuts off again ....So does anyone know what the hell can be causing this problem its driving me bat **** crazy any help would be awesome !!

Yes the ICM can be especially susceptible to heat and have been a known failure point.

Most people identify their cars as female. Nobody really cares if you are irritated by how they refer to their own vehicle.

She's a good lookin' ride.

i'd change the fuel filter first. its cheap and easy. plus the car has been sitting a long time.
stick a magnet on the bottom of the gas tank, away from the pick up. it will help collect any possible rust inside the tank away from the pick up.

Looking at the engine, I doubt it has an ECM. My first guess is to change the distributor. You can keep that coil and cap if they're in good condition but an OEM cap and coil will work just as well.

Best guess is that the wiring inside the distributor is cracked. At an idle or reving it up without a load, the vacuum advance is doing nothing. When driving with a load on the engine, the vacuum advance moves, the wires open and the engine will die. Took me a few hours to diagnose an old GMC top kick that had a problem like that. That's only a guess for your car. If it has a vacuum advance, disconnect the hose and go for a drive. If it still dies, it's not the moving vacuum advance plate causing the problem.

Hard to diagnose stuff like that without actually looking at the car. As already mentioned, a dirty fuel filter can cause the same type of problem. As engine load increases so does fuel demand. A dirty or plugged filter prevents extra fuel from reaching the engine when required.

How does it cut off? Does it just shut off like you turned the key off? Does it slowly cut off?

It hurts when I do this. Do what?

It looks like a vacuum advance distributor and carb conversion. Check for cracks and fitment on cap, make sure no moisture in there, clean it up. Check all the wiring. An internal combustion engine needs 3 things to run, spark, air, and fuel. As long as it has those it should run. When it shuts off and you can't get it started, check the spark. Is it an electric fuel pump? If your fuel system isn't plumbed correctly that could cause some issues, but this does seem like spark.

Remember, start with the 3 basic necessities, and see which it isn't getting. Then try to figure out why. Sometimes things are as simple as a broken wire, a disconnected wire, or a broken vacuum hose.

As a 52 year old male, with plenty of experience with both cars and women, I can assure you that if it has teats or tires sooner or later it's going to give you trouble.
