Cam question
I recently found a good deal on an Edelbrock rolling thunder 2209 camshaft on my local craigslist new in the box. I know this is for a vortec engine but i would use it on a 1973 350 block. Does anyone know if it can be used with my block and would it be worth the hassle if i need to modify anything to make it work?

Re: Cam question
If it's a roller cam, as would be likely for a Vortec motor, you'd need the original style roller lifters (the ones nowadays called "retrofit", with link bars), a late-model timing set with the smaller bolt pattern on the cam nose, a cam button small enough to fit down among the bolts (pretty small... AFAIK none is made like that, takes a bit of fabrication), push rods that are about .400" shorter than the ones in your motor now although the exact length can't be known until after final assembly, and a spacer of some sort to occupy the space that the factory-style retainer plate would go in (can be made from an actual retainer plate).

Re: Cam question
That sounds like alot of work and stuff I would easily screw up. Can anyone recommend me a good cam. My set up on the new motor will be an Edelbrock Performer Intake, ported 292 turbo heads, i think around 9.5:1 pistons and a 650 cfm holley. I was thinking about staying in .450-.500 lift range. Any good recommendations from what you guys run?

Re: Cam question
Look at Herbert cams. That's what we have used a lot they have some nice grinds. On the cheap a Summit K1103 or K1104 are a pretty good grind for a street engine also.

...and considering your intake and heads, would be choked at higher rpm where it's meant to operate.
Use a smaller cam. The car will feel faster, and will BE faster

I bumped compression up going to new patriot heads, 76cc to 64cc car ran much better, idle was smoother power way up. I also freed up the exhaust with new headers and a catback.
That cam makes some noise with its fast ramp but makes good power at all RPMs, revs smooth and idles smooth around 800-1000 rpm. It likes vac advance at idle so I run full time vacuum. I get about 12-14" at idle.

Re: Cam question
Midias, your set up sounds similar to mine. My heads are 64cc chambers ad im running hooker 2055s to a full 3" cat back. Im not sure of the pistons i have exact compression, I can't find much info on them. Hopefully i will have the block at the machine shop by next week and I can find out what they are.
