Oil Pressure Guage
Has anyone had this problem? I have a 91 Formula 305TBI. When I am idleing, the oil pressure guage needle jumps around between mid scale and sometimes even pegs at max pressure. When I am driving, the pressure is stable at about 40-45 psi (depending on speed). I have observed this problem for a couple of years. I am pretty sure that the oil pump is not the problem. I suspect that either the oil guage or oil sensor is faulty. I have a new sensor, but I have not installed it yet. It is physically different from the stock one, but the guy at Pontiac parts says that it is the one for my car.
Any help is appreciated.

take your sender off and make sure tube from the block to the sender is clear of debris.
if that does not solve it, replace your oil pressure sendor and your prob should be fixed.
I had same prob on my 85 Z. the journal where the oil travels to the pressure sendor was clogged.

sounds like an electrical problem. check all elec, conections to sender and gauge. if still there it could be the transformer that steps the power down to gauges. that is if your car is equiped with this type of setup. good luck
Oil Pressure Sending Unit
Hi Don,
Were you able to fix this problem? If so did the replacement of the oil pressure sending unit cure the problem. I have the same symptoms on my Camaro and will be replacing that unit tomorrow. Do you know where it's located?
Thanks,
Rob
