LT1 Heads on Gen 1 Block
LT1 Heads on Gen 1 Block
First of all, let me apologize for asking for help on this. I know it's old technology and there are way better options for the money. However. I'm a high school auto instructor and have a group of students very interested in converting a set of LT1 heads to run on a class project Gen 1 350 that we built. Our parameters for the build was to run GM production parts. meaning they needed to come on a vehicle from the factory. That would exclude Bowtie, etc...We have a set of vortecs that we did and tested, now interested in the LT1 with the smaller chamber and the effects. So, that being said, we know we have to weld the coolant passage and add lines, but does anyone have a current thread or willing to share some knowledge and pictures? Every link we find is expired and we can't see pictures. We are utilizing our machine shop and doing this in house, so I'm excited that the kids are excited. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Re: LT1 Heads on Gen 1 Block
What information are you looking for?
I have a set of them running on a 305 in my '87 TA, using a modified Victor Jr intake (modified to deal with the plumbing, the heads were port matched to the porting work on the intake and the whole thing converted to fuel injection). I ported, machined and welded them myself.
They work quite well, I would say better than anything you're going to get to work on a 305 (mainly because the better aftermarket castings all come with larger valves which won't work well on a 305), but I hesitate to just post information about them because what's out there already is pretty sketchy and when I start posting real information the thread turns into an argument.
There are 2 recent threads (last few months if you search for them) on thirdgen.org that I've been part of (one that I started about tuning them, another started by another member about converting some), and I posted a lot of pictures of converting them, flow numbers, and installing them on ****** Militia (facebook group, I've checked and they still come up if you search the group)
