When it gets hot

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me out. I have a 1988 Chevy camaro 5.7 when it's hot it starts acting up.it doesn't want to start it acts like it's not getting fuel and when I go to take off at a light it bogs down after I get going it's fine . Just put a fuel filter on her and tune up all around and I checked the fuel injectors checked out where they supposed to be. Any ideas would be much appreciated thanks

Does it run any better when you unplug the oxygen sensor? Next thing I'd check would be the coolant temp sensor, which is mounted on the underside of the upper intake. They're both cheap parts to replace.

Re: When it gets hot

A scanner or other ALDL capable setup for reading live data is almost a must with the older stuff since shops don't have them and don't know how to work on these anymore. I suggest getting a setup that will allow live data and datalogging. I just discovered my MAF was out of calibration by about 12%. You can't even detect that without talking to the computer. For reference - 12% was enough to throw my WOT AFR's into the high 9:1, low 10:1 range. The computer will not complain, and the only symptom was the car was not as "quick" as it should have been under WOT. Otherwise ran completely fine and no one would know without seeing the data.

So really, moral of the story is, with a computer controlled engine, you must talk to the computer first or you are just "troubleshooting with Visa".

Re: When it gets hot

I assume you have an android phone or tablet (with bluetooth) at your disposal? I have this Bluetooth one for $75 that is really trick:

Bonus - people are super confused when you show them your Bluetooth interface with your 1980's car.

Re: When it gets hot

Actually the ECM's temp sensor is at the front of the manifold by the thermostat. After warming issues I would look at the ignition modules, EGR, and MAF.
