I finally got my 91 gta started after it had been sitting for 9 years. btw im 17 so the car had always been around and my fathers not a big car guy. I began working on it this summer. Replaced the distributor and all wires spark plugs, fuel pump and a fuel other gadgets. I finally got it started after hours of fighting with it. now it wont stay running unless im full throttle and dies off if i take off the throttle. i know its a fuel delivery problem. any ideas on what it may be?

You do t state if your dealing with a tbi or tpi or engine size but you should start with replacing them. I'm betting they are varnished with old fuel deposits.

so if i change the injectors and i believe im just going to get rid of the cat in general and it still wont rev, what should i look for.

 

Verify the fuel pressure at the rail - poor pressure could be the filter or the pump's **** itself.

If thats all good then change out the injectors

If you want to test out the cat issue, disconnect it from the y pipes - stand back as its bloody loud.

 

just replaced both the fuel pump and fuel filter so i hope those wouldnt be it.

 

Clogged cat and muffler with all kinds or crispy critters. Remember, it sat for a looooooong time, full of nuts and such

 

It has no cat as it was taken off.

 

OK, what about the muffler? Anything coming out of it?

 

Check your airbox and bellows for air restriction

I'll bet. I'm thinking the pipes and muffler are packed with nuts and stuff. I seen some stuff in my days......unreal!

You can remove the pipe at the inlet to the muffler and blow that out. You muffler will have to be removed and replaced probably. Once you remove it at the inlet and it starts and runs, you'll know your muffler is packed.
Short story:
Years ago, my Wife's 305 5spd T/A's Cat clogged. Wouldn't get over 35 mph. Replaced cat. Car ran good for 2 days. Next day had the muffler replaced. All the chunks from the cat clogged the muffer.

 

I had a clogged muffler (cat was hollowed out so no restrictions there) and was running cc carb and cc dist which always ran rich.

rear muffler was packed with about 8kg of fine black soot. Only a partial blockage but enough to cause similar issues

 

muffler delete it is!
