Ticking noise! Can't diagnose!
Wanted to try and get some input. There's a ticking noise coming from the engine bay that accelerates with the engine RPM. Initially i thought it was an exhaust leak. I took it to a hot rod shop and they said both my header gaskets were blown and I need new ones which will cost $1200 to replace. What I didn't tell him is that I had put on the Fel-pro metal ones with the raised edges. I doubt that metal ones would blow. Not to mention they've only been on the car for about 2yrs.
I then took it to get a second opinion. That shop listened to it and drive it around for a few and said it wasn't an exhaust leak that it was just noisy:hm injectors. I haven't noticed the noise get quieter as the engine warms either.
Is it possible to randomly get noisy fuel injectors if so, would then sound like an exhaust leak?
Any input would be appreciated.

What injectors do you have? Those of us with Bosch III injectors do experience ticking noises because the TPI fires all injectors at the same time resulting in quite a noisy engine bay.

Loose rocker? Even if you have the metal felpro gaskets if your headers are warped they will still leak. I would start with replacing those first.

It has the reman Bosch 3 injectors from South Bay.
What test would you recommend to determine whether or not the header flange is Warped? That's what I was thinking, just hoping that it wasn't because they're not even two years old.

The injectors are the source of the noise. No question. Listen to them with a stethoscope. We all have that noise.....

Possibly. Does it really bother you that much? Get some decent exhaust and with the hood down you can't really hear it.
Sounds like you're probably not tuned for them anyway. Swap them out with stock injectors and the noise will go away and it will likely run better.

A cheap and quick way to listen around an engine bay, is to use a 2' length of hose. One end in your good ear, and move the other end around to the exhaust manifolds, rockers, injectors.

An exhaust leak will usually be worse cold. You will also smell exhaust in the engine bay.
A cracked flywheel probably won't tick in neutral.
Injectors likely. My D3's can be noisy at times (why only sometimes I don't know).
Could be lifter noise. If your oil is old and/or the level is low.

I agree with the hose trick. You can pick up a stethoscope rather cheap at a parts store too. Id start with that and find out where its at its loudest. you can pull the pcv valve out of the valve covers and if it gets louder than it could be lifters.

I hope there was one zero too many in this post on header gasket replacement cost because the gouging was deep on this one if it was $1200...

I had a spark plug turn loose on me that caused an unusual tick noise. I agree, a 2 foot hose will certainly let you pinpoint an exhaust leak. If it's a lifter, you can use a stethoscope or a long screwdriver (put your ear to the handle and touch different parts of the engine) to isolate the noise.

if you have the bosch lll's it's probably the injectors as they are notorious for this ticking sound, however although the sound can be annoying it does not mean that the injectors are not functioning properly.
