Questions on engine irregularities with potential purchase
Questions on engine irregularities with potential purchase
I am looking into buying my 3rd 3rd gen. The one I am looking at is a 1990. The car shows to have been born with a LB9. It appears to have had a 350 swap at some point. Original TPI is still in place. What’s confusing to me is the a/c compressor looks to be a Sanden. Also, the smog pump is up high on the left “driver’s side” of the intake with the alternator directly outboard of it. I have never seen this before. It is currently residing in NE & is possibly a Canadian model, although Google images revealed nothing like it except the actual car for sale. I will try to supply a link to the sale ad.

Seems like the c4 takes up much more room and is harder to work on. Might have been a complete pull out of a c4 engine and was easier to drop it in as is .
Although the valve covers are correct but wrong color. The vette used magnesium covers.

From the pics, it looks like the A/C compressor could have clearance issues. I e-mailed the seller and told them it was critical for me to speak with previous owner that did the install. They are simply a retailer, and so far they just want to sell & have no interest in the car or it’s history.

Nice looking car, if it’s from a vette I’d guess 90/91. The computer chip would be compatible with the swap too. I think the c4 started using that compressor in 89.

AC compressor is a Nippondenso unit from 88+ Corvettes. Lines look different, but it's prob that way so it fits.
Alternator upper bracket is Corvette, too
Lot of work went into the swap, but not enough to look proper.
Wonder if it has alumn heads from vette? Can't see in pics.
