Passenger side bracket from frame rail to strut tower

Just got my 84 back from getting an engine rebuild and the bracket is touching the exhaust header and it shakes the car .is this bracket needed or can we do without it?

Re: Passenger side bracket from frame rail to strut tower

It's not really "necessary"; most cars didn't come with it. Just a little bit of stiffening for the strut tower.

A trip to the quarter car wash however, appears to be CRITICAL. Your car would probably pick up a tenth in the 1320' just from the weight reduction of getting all that schmutz out of it.

Careful - You're showing your age. Self-service car washes haven't been a quarter since YOU started driving. Half a roll of quarters is more like it today.

And yes, there certainly appears to be plenty to clean off to provide a really good look at what's going on.

Hey!!! I resemble that remark!!!

(actually, I call it that because I only wash a quarter of my car at a time... kinda like I only install ¾ of a race cam into my engines...)

Just got the car back yesterday and had some issues on the way home. Car wash is on the list but after the minor tweeks are worked out.

Re: Passenger side bracket from frame rail to strut tower

That brace, along with a couple others, were a Z28 only feature. I would check that everything is right on the engine (mounts, headers, etc). Because if it wasn't touching before the rebuild. . .and now it is after the rebuild. . .then something changed.

I wouldn't remove it though. These cars were so flimsy from the factory, if GM thought a brace was needed enough to actually install one then it's probably a good idea to leave it there.

Well something has to change. It has new headers so I'm assuming things just shifted a bit with the new build. Engine is great had a mechanic friend check it out and he thinks the build is great. Might have find a way to add support elsewhere
