Help getting dormant engine running again

Recently purchased 87 gta that has been sitting for an extensive period of time. Not mechanically enclined so need to hire a mechanic. So I can get an idea of how much I'm gonna need to spend n get the right stuff what are the things I should do to motor to get it back running properly and safely
