It will crank and not fire.

The computer uses the CPS to detect where the crankshaft is in rotation. It the computer can't tell if the engine is cranking then it won't know what cylinder needs to be fired. Until it gets a CPS signal the computer thinks the engine is stopped.

Ford Powerstroke/Navistar engines are bad for that. It's the most common problem for a nostart complaint.

Note: I race against a Monza that looks like that.

thanks Stephen

my Vega is a V8 project, should be a quick car.. my sig has a horrible pic but whatever

i'm thinking it's the CPS, too.. seems to be the most common problem that I've come across as well.. i've been reading FAQs on the net all night and 90% of them are the CPS

ttyl man!

jeeps are pretty notorius for the CPS to start to crap out early. My dad has 2000 grand cherokee with 65K miles on it, and the thing cranks and cranks before it finaly kicks over. and if U accidentaly stop and then start cranking again quick, it throws the timing out of whack and runs like **** until you reset the ECM. just my little addition lol.

I had a belt alignment problem with my TTA and it would wear away the crank trigger sensor. Nothing like rolling down the highway and the car would just stop running.
