Gas Overflow Problem

Hello,

When I first got the car this was an issue I faced, and still face now.

When I fill up my tank, mind you I let it go until it clicks off automatically. It SEEMS fine, but as I drive down the road I smell gas and then low and behold its coming out of the cap.

I've tried a new cap, to no avail. Should I try another? What could cause this issue, and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

My first question ; our cars are not supposed to have vented caps , is your cap solid or vented ?

If it's a solid cap and it's leaking , and you've tried more than one (solid) cap , my next idea would be ; Has the tank been replaced ? The filler cap threads on many aftermarket tanks are said to be lacking , indeed the replacement tank in my car had problems with the cap threading down far enough to seat the rubber gasket and seal the cap , so much so that I was forced to "dress" the plastic threads of the cap with a file & sandpaper to get it to thread down far enough to seal properly .

A search may turn up threads where folks have dealt with this very issue , and from personal experience I will tell you your not alone ....
