yet.. another problem to solve

ok so it's a nice day today... I go and pickup my counsins engine lift and put it all together... ok so now all I need to do is put my new energy suspension mounts and I'm ready to install my new engine.. well ok there' sonly 3 bolts on each mount to remove them.. that's nice.. too bad the damn things just turn & turn & turn... and from what I can see there's no way to get to the other side.. is there a damn nut underneath these things? they sure as hell don't talk about that in the instructions..

I think there's sorta of a way in through where the control arms mount to the cross member.. but I can't see a way that I would get a wrench in there.. you''d think they would have just threaded the cross member.. unless I have to pull up on the mount to get it to start loosening..

Car: yep
Engine: uhuh
Transmission: sure does
There are nuts under there, can be reached above the lower a arm, in a nice little pocket that no one but maybe my wife could get their hands into, and to top it off, they are "pinch" nuts.

Its tough to get in there, but doable. I have seen people remove the lower control arm to get them.

If the mounts aren't that bad, I would be tempted to leave them. Are they broken?

I spend must of the day replacing the mounts. ust when I thought I had it fiqured out how to get the nuts loose I would drop the wrench and then have to start over again. Good Luck

On an '89 GMC, I took a box end wrench, cut the end off, welded about a 10" 3/8" diameter round stock handle on it and bent it until it would fit between the lower control arm and the frame. The nuts have a flange on them so they don't fall through the wrench. Makes putting them back on easy also.

Hope this helps!

ok well after 2 hours of swearing and everything else.. I finally got one mount off!... I took the wheel off, jacked that side up and put it on a stand.. I was able to see the nuts in through where the lower control arm mounts.. not much room and quite the angle especially for the top one.. I ended buying one of those hinge socket adapters and was able to get it.. I think this is a two man job though.. it would have been a lot easier if I could hold the nut underneath and have someone on top remove it.. I think I'll get help for the other side and to put them back on.. btw I also lost one nut because I somehow was able to rig the ratchet with vise grips to the control arm so it would hold the nut while I got on top and took it off. when it came apart everything went flying and I have no idea where the nut is.. might still be in the frame somewhere.. I don't know how anyone would do this with the engine still in the vehicle.. what b this is..
