Car: 85' Z28
Question on opinion of a swap or other options

I am new to the board and I appreciate anyone's help and responses. I have an 85' Z28 (305 TPI that was worked over back in the day) that has been sitting for about 15 years now. I have had it since 1988. It needs a good bit of work but was my first sports car and I love the design.. I also have an 01' Z28 that has been one of my babies but just suffered a collision. It has 81K on it with the LS1 6-speed with the Hurst shifter, ground effects etc. the car is/was in fantastic shape. The recent wreck happened yesterday and it damaged the rear of the front fender, drivers door, lower drivers door frame area, rear skirt and most off all it twisted the axle enough that the car won't move. The drivers rear tire is actually push back enough that I think the driveshaft is pulled out (but not all the way) of the tranny. Either way the car won't move. I had "modern collectors" insurance on it and they are evaluating it now but were honest enough to say that they may total it due to age and cost to repair. Even though it is in fantastic shape otherwise. I can buy the car back even if they total it for 10% of the totaled value. My thoughts are this...should I get it repaired and keep it or resell it later? Strip it down and take the LS! and drop it into my 85'? I am torn as what to do. I love both cars but I am 49 years old and having my 85' back would be kinda cool as each time I drive my 01' I feel like the old guy in a young bucks car. lol! I do have a 93' vette, 07' Trailblazer SS and a 96' Silverado as well so I have cars to drive. This wreck threw a monkey wrench into my base plans of getting an 08' Z06 and then selling my 01' and my 93' then restoring the 85' with a junkyard LS1 or something else. Five minuted before the wreck I had started leaning towards scraping the 85' and selling the 93' and just keep the 01' because it needed nothing but to keep up the car as I had been doing. I miss my 01' already. I guess you don't know what you got until its gone right? Any thoughts on this mess would be appreciated. One more thing.... I have thrown around the thought of taking the LS! out and dropping it into a C3 Vette as I know I will always get my money back if I ever decide to sell it. I am just torn in different directions.
