HELP!!! Code 42 (EST)

Ok... I've racked my brain on this one. To give you all alittle history, it's a fresh built 305 with mods listed in my sig (except for the Ignition box). I'm getting code 42 (Electronic Spark Timing) and not sure exactly where to look. I have checked the EST connector next to the right strut tower and I have also replaced the EST Module (the one that's on the driver's side firewall) with a new one. Still getting the damn code!

What else should I check? The Chilton's manual doesn't even cover what to check on this code.

I have not had this on the road yet because I need to clear all the codes before I get it smog'ed tested so I have no idea about the performance. However, I do notice a little hesitation when I crack the throttle quickly.

Thanks everyone!!

Mike

Have you reset the computer since you set the timing? The codes will stay if you haven't.

EXACTLY! If you set your timming and unplugged the brown wire...which you must to inoreder to get the timming right, you will always get a code 42. Now, all you have to do is DC your battery for 30seconds and you will no longer have the code 42

I did reset the computer. I let it sit for 7 days without a battery in it. If that didn't reset it....I don't know what will!!
