Had to post this. I bought a brand new procharger kit for my iroc in May, 2016. Well, 2 years and 1500 miles later, the bearings have failed. This is a easily driven car, never raced, and I don't think the car has seen sustained full throttle more than a dozen times. The belt tension was correct (actually a little loose), and it had plenty of oil. A phone call to procharger just confirmed what I already suspected. They said I am out of warranty, and that's the end of it. If I want them to look at it, I have to ship it to them at my cost, then pay $150 for them to look at it, only for them to say it won't be covered. Needless to say, I have already taken the kit off the car and put it back to normal. I guess I will just lick my wounds and move on. I think it is a disgrace that I spent all that money, and this is what I got. Thanks for nothing.

 

These sorts of stories are never nice to hear, however i think you've identified your problem - 2 Years / 1500 miles. I'id be pretty pissed off if i were a bearing getting cold spun once a week only to go for a 14 mile drive then stop again...

 

I think the infrequent short drive cycles and no oil changes may be at fault here. Would have to do some oil analysis. If I had installed that kit I would have swapped out the oil in about 100 miles just to get initial wear materials out - it has no filter after all, and being a gear-box there is going to be some break-in materials. And at that point the oil condition may have eluded to a possible problem that could have been reported to Pro-charger so at least there was a record of concern. They may have had you send it in for inspection right then. But two years later? I'm sure everyone that has a failure after severe abuse tells them "it only has 1500 miles on it". They have to deal with thousands of customers and so they have to assume a general mileage per-year and base their warranty on it.

In response to both of those replies, I am not buying the cold bearing start thing. First of all, this car is warm weather only, and I have to believe with the technology we have today in material and oil advances, this would not be a problem. Second, the drives this car were on were anything but short, and lastly, I did two oil changes on the head for that very reason. And on top of all that, I called procharger about a week after installing the unit and told them I thought it was noisy and they told me that at idle, the head would make some noise and that it was ok.

 

Yeah I would be calling them and asking for a supervisor or manager or something. Either that or open it up and rebuild it yourself. Probably just needs some bearings. Can't be that big of a deal.

 

You can definitely buy the bearings and rebuild it yourself. That is what I would do... I wouldn't be very pleased either.
