88 GTA help with serp belt size
ok
I have a 88 gta 305 tpi 5 speed and serp belt
I got a bbk underdrive pulley set 3 years ago
and I also got a/c delete and deleted the smog pump,
the smog pump is gone totally and the ac delete pulley I got from the parts store here works fine.
it took me a lot of trip back and fourth to get the right length but
now I want to put the stock crank and the stock water pump pulley back and stock alt pulley back on
I also want to keep the ac delete pulley and the smog pump delete
NOW ...
WHO KNOWS HOW LONG OF A BELT I NEED TO BUY
ty

I KNOW! I KNOW!!! I KNOW!! ME! ME! ME!
The size equal to the length of a piece of string or thin wire (a single conductor out of a cat5 cable is PERFECT) wound around the pulleys, less an inch and a half or so for the tensioner.

Re: 88 GTA help with serp belt size
i know how to do that
I just wanted to know if I should just get a stock belt size from the store to see if it fits
if anything it should be shorter a tiny bit
??
and just a fyi
the bbk pulleys work mint but they did not charge my alt and made the car not start I had to go to a local alt shop and dig though a pile and I got one that was 50% smaller then my charging went from 12.5 ideling to 14.7 where it was before
I did notice a power small power gain 12 hp ish but not worth all the money
I just wondered if anyone had done that setup before
and just knew a measurement

A couple observations. Sounds like your pulley setup is custom. Not sure how any internet guess will identify proper belt size. I'd take the earlier advice and measure w/ a string, but be sure to factor the play in the tensioner.
Also, the "alt" is not charged. It spins, providing a charge to the battery where the energy is stored.
I found by running a larger pulley on the factory alternator, they tended to "live longer", and I never burnt another one. High RPMs seemed to burn them up when I had the factory pulley in-place. This was of course, with high rpm operation. Hope this info all is helpful.
