Arguing on YouTube (I know)

So I’m wasting my life arguing in the comments section on YouTube about tpi heads. There’s a guy claiming they can support 600 hp N/A. What were the best tpi heads again? and can they even be ported to support anywhere close to that? If you wanna go rip him he’s on the latest faster proms video referring to the mini rammed smallblock in the vette as tpi.

Re: Arguing on YouTube (I know)

I have seen guys get around 270 cfm out of a set of 083’s heavily worked. Depends how much time you wanna spend. The best engines will get 2.2-2.3 hp per cfm so figure it could be possible to make near 600 on the right setup but it wont be easy or cheap to do. Read: 98% of guys will never beable to do it. And it wont be streetable

think superstock type stuff. Stock heads flowing 200-220 cfm and they got cars going 10’s and 11’s

years ago here a 305 made 290 whp in stock head form...superstock racing class. Was well into the 11’s

so figure some compression, a super aggressive cam, well ported head and intake manifold, well developed exhaust, vacuum pump, low tension ring pack, 550-600 flywheel could be possible on a 083 head i think

113 alum L98 tpi heads i’m not sure. Might get 250-260 cfm out of them. May get near 550

Probably do it with E85 or E98 and 15-17:1 compression. Radical camshaft, massive porting, etc. Sure it might be possible. Wouldn't want to drive it though. Wouldn't have nice manners and it would be real ugly to start it when cold.

Re: Arguing on YouTube (I know)

Yup... "possible" and "practical" and "you can do it yourself" are all COMPLETELY different things.

That said, people were getting power levels like that out of the old double-hump heads, even the straight-plug ones; and 083s are pretty similar. So it wouldn't surprise me that there are "edge cases" where it has been done. Av gas or CAM2 type stuff, high compression, solid roller cam, and 7500+ RPM might get you there.

The MiniRam is NOT "TPI". It's a whole other beast. It's not really "tuned" at all. But with a configuration like the photo, it might also get pretty close to that; but it would take ONEHELLUVA tuner to get it there.
