Cleaning out fuel lines.

Looking to give my fuel system some attention. Relatively new pump has started making some whining, and fuel filter is dirty. Regardless of who why or what....I'm looking at replacing or repairing some old, ailing parts of my fuel system. Figured cleaning out the lines is better than buying them. I wouldn't be difficult to blow some air through 'em, but was considering maybe seafoam or lucas fuel treatment as well. Both come pretty well recommended. I figure they're 30 years old and have over 200k miles on 'em.

Thoughts??? ....anyone done this?

Re: Cleaning out fuel lines.

Seafoam = ½ diesel fuel & ½ water... if you think that's what you need, use equal parts diesel fuel and water, at a fraction of the price
Lucas = ??? … I wouldn't pour it in my car until I knew EXACTLY

What do you want to "clean out" of it? Are you finding rust; dirt; varnish; ??? in the filter? Every contaminant requires a different approach. Solvents of ANY kind don't dissolve rust for example. If it's varnish, let the tank run down to near empty, put in a gallon of lacquer thinner, run it awhile, let it sit acoupla days, fill it up with clean gas. If it's rust, you need a new tank. If it's dirt, take it out and flush it. Be VERY leery of "magic in a bottle" for ANY of it.

Well my plan wasn't to put all my faith in snake oil, but I figured it couldn't hurt. I've seen more than one thread where people solved pump/fuel issues with "cleaning" out the lines. Haven't seen one go into their methods specifically though. One local just used compressed air and blew 'em out. ....and I am planning a new tank as well, regardless of it's condition. It's 30 years old.

New pre bent lines are pretty affordable.

I may go that route.
