Vortec Heads and what Intake?

I can get a set of Vortec heads form a 1997 Chevy Truck for $100. So I am wondering if either of these 2 intakes will work with these heads.
My motor is a 1987 350 TPI. I am guessing go with the Vortec if thats the proper part number?
1st: New GMPP SBC Aluminum Air Gap Square Bore Single Plane Intake Manifold for Vortec heads. P/N 12486574 or 12496822 (Same). Found on GM line of High Performance Crate Engines.
2nd: Edelbrock Performance intake for vortec heads with gaskets and ARP bolts. $500. Part # on the box is hard to see. But is this for a Carb or does it matter?

Do you want to stay tpi? If so there's only one intake available.

Yes I will be staying TPI. So as you said this is the ONLY intake that will work? Do I need any certain bolts and probably new gaskets correct?
One more question, I will probable pull the engine and do my rear main seal. Is that doable with the headers still on? I know when I put them on they were a PITA, so I probably answered my own question!

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Vortec Heads and what Intake?

Yes that is THE ONLY TPI intake for Vortec heads. Might be available from other sources as well, but it's THE ONLY one.

All of the intakes you mention are for carbs. You can put TBI on them as well, with an adapter; but not TPI.

There are other similar EFI intake systems available for those heads, such as the Holley Stealth Ram; but that's not TPI. It's MUCH better than TPI for performance, but comes with other issues, like hood fitment, requirement for tuning, and emissions compliance.

Yes you need new gaskets. If you get the bolts that come with the heads you can probably re-use them; but the ones you have now won't work. You'll have to get the right ones, one way or another.

No it is not really practical to pull a motor with headers attached. Usually best to leave em laying in the engine compartment.
