Are these stock heads worth spending money on?
Are these stock heads worth spending money on?
I got a 4-bolt 350 out of a 81 4x4 truck(thats what I was told). Casting number 14010207. I tore it down and found that the heads are 468642 poor flowing heads 1.7/1.5. Are these worth working on? I may be able to get chevy heads with 2.02, but I would like to get the engine going and save for AFR's. Any info on these heads and what to do with them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

They are the lowest of the low. I would consider them a liability until the garbage men come take them away.
If you want AFRs, save your money until you have enough for AFRs. Don't screw around giving it away on something else, no matter what size valves they have jammed into them. People can stick 2.02" intake valves into almost any casting, just because they're there doesn't make the castings any good.
Do the least possible amount of work to them that is absolutely necessary to get the car running, if in fact you need this motor to be in this car right now to get to work or whatever; and save for what you really want. If possible, spend nothing at all on them, and simply don't build the motor until you have the parts you really want. You're just going to get farther than ever from your goal if you spend your money on something else.

I spent 200 bucks on a set of l98 heads. They are still sitting in my garage
I saved up and got a set of AFR heads and They are worth every penny! I used to have a set of TWS heads on my corvette and they performed well, however, the valve guides went bad after only 7K miles on the heads
And to top it off, they said they were the G2 heads but did not have the bronze valve guides so summit sold the tws heads prior to the G2's
I found that out after i sold the car, so no worries. Anyway, if you want, i can send you to a link and you can get a set of AFR's for 1300.00 so let me know when you are ready, I'm sure i can save you some cash on the heads
