'88 RS Camaro 305 TBI lopey idle

My '88 Camaro (auto) has developed an interesting issue after getting a new distributor and coil. A few weeks ago my distributor took a crap on me while driving, magnet rusted out and turned to dust. Long story short I pulled the old distributor and coil, replaced with brand new and timed. Now this car has always idled high when cold and then settled down once it reached operating temp. However now with the new dist and coil installed (and with correct timing) it has developed a really lopey idle almost like it has a cam in it. The other weird thing about this issue is that it will only do the lopey idle when in drive. When in park just sitting it idles completely normally. When I put it in drive it drops in hard and I can feel it kind of try to push forward against the brakes and the lopey idle starts. Could my torque converter or trans have something going on and putting drag on the engine while in drive? Any way to troubleshoot this?
