will not idle

Yesterday when i was in town my car died so is started it back and it would not idle for nothing. I had to put in neutral and keep it revved up then throw it in drive to go. I got home and messed with the throttle and now it idles fine. Anybody know what happened? Thanks.

Man, this is wierd! The '87 LB9 in my Monte SS is doing the same thing!

The car died on me a few weeks ago...turns out the ignition module in the distributor was fried, and toasted out the cap and rotor too. So we replaced everything, and I put in new plugs as well. Car ran GREAT for a few days, then I parked it cause I won't drive it to work.

Went out to start it about three days later, and she would not idle for ****. Same thing as your car, if I revved it up, it would smooth out, but otherwise, ran crappy. So, I left it alone. Last night, I went out for the hell of it, and started it. Ran perfect, so I took it out for a ride. Put about 40 miles on it, no trouble at all. Though, I did notice the idle was very high in Park last night after shutting down and restarting a while later.

Decided to take it to work today, and she wouldn't idle again this AM! WTF?? I'm thinking IAC as well, anyone else have this happen??

When my car did something similar, it turned out that my computer was fried.

I'm not sure about IROC_Z16s car, but mine hasn't. I need to check it for stored codes though, maybe there's a clue there.

Update

I took my car out tonite again, and checked the ECM for stored codes. None at all. The car seemed to run fine, but there are some other oddities now I need to check out. Both fans are on all the time, and the torque converter locks when I lift off the throttle, and unlocks when I step on it. I think I have to reset the brake switch.

My 92 did that and all i did was unplug the hose that went into that "charcoal canister" and she would idle fine. the idle rpm did jump up to almost a grand, from 750. I have not had the problem come up again since i did that well over a year ago.

would unplugging the charcoal canister mess anything up?
MY car has had the same problem on and for over a year so after replacing all of the vacuum hoses and replacing many sensors i decided to unplug the canister and now it has no funky idle Could it have just been an old charcoal canister that need to be replaced
