Distributor swapping??

I have a 1990 TPI intake with a small cap distributor and external coil. I wish to replace my small cap distributor, with the large cap out of a 1986.

Can I do this??

I already know about the wiring differences and that is pretty easy to get around. My concern is the distributor shaft size and the output of the coil itself. Corvette used a large cap distributor throughout 86 - 91, but I noted from GM that the part numbers are different than the 86 Camaro distributor.

My goal is to use an internal HEI MSD coil that I have kicking around and to clean up the engine compartment a bit.

thanks for the help

its a direct bolt in except for the connectors being different, also make sure you swap the gear for a bronze one if you have a roller motor.

thanks for the info.

Any idea why the Corvette would have a different part number?? they used the large cap HEI from 85 to 91.

i am guessing the different part numbers are because the only fbodys to get this distributer were flat tappet cam (85-86),, and corvettes used roller cams, (87-91), with it so the gears are different.
