Starting problem

I’ve replaced starter, and now periodically when u turn the key it just clicks sometimes just once sometimes 4 times in a row before it will start. Question is could it be the ignition switch? It’s a 92 Camaro with air bag

Yes. It could also be the starter solenoid, a loose/corroded battery cable, a poor ground, a bad wire or connection between the ignition switch and starter, or even a defective starter.

thanks I will check those, I guess had the starter replaced yesterday so that is what made me believe it may be the switch but will definitely check the others

Re: Starting problem

is it a remanufactured starter?

I have had the same problem in my 92Z... replaced the starter and it went away... but now i have had it happen a couple times in the new one ( few years later)....it seems to be the starter solenoid is not connecting the motor contacts... not sure why.. such a pain to get those in and out....

Re: Starting problem

I had a similar problem off an on with my 86.
1st time was loose ground at the battery.
2nd time was loose power- at the battery again.
3rd time was my neutral safety switch bypass- I rewired and it has performed flawlessly since. Knock on wood.

Re: Starting problem

Hi, I hope everyone had a merry Christmas! Reviving last January's thread just to chip in my

I had exactly the same intermittent starter "click" problem, I tried this and that, checked all my flywheel teeth, removed my battery cables and cleaned everything I could reach, etc, but no luck.

Then I removed the battery again, just so I could clean under it, and ever since I put it back together I've had no more trouble with my starter.

The basic issue may be that I have an old corroded battery terminal, but I haven't replaced it yet, and I haven't messed with it any more since it started working.
