Timing cover

I have a 86 camaro 2.8 mpg. Took car thru deq died just as I went in. Passed with flying colors. Cat was red hot. Came home parked. Went to drive it . Would not stay running. Checked a few things. Noticed choc milkshake like oil. Ok changed the head gasket. Decided to put coolant in first heard it going in engine. Took oil plug out. Water came out. So I then took water pump off, n timing cover. How do u know it's bad. Baxter's ordered me the wrong one. Can I use old one? Have owned my car 34 years.

Re: Timing cover

Coolant in oil? Could be any number of things. Bad/wrong head gasket. Cracked head. Cracked cylinder wall/block
