So I have a 88 firebird gta with the 350 tpi engine. I converted it to carbureted last summer. Vortec heads and intake Edelbrock 600 carb. Other than that it’s stock. It ran great I put a brand new carb on it a few weeks ago and had some minor things with it. After I would step on it the next time I would start off slow it would chug and hesitate a bit. A few days ago I put a 1 inch carb spacer on it. Yesterday I drove it. Stomped on the gas and it died. It fired up a couple times and the idle bounced and it would die again. Then it would only fire once in a while and not start. It would backfire out the carb and also dump thick smoke out the exhaust once in a while. After a half hour of turning it over I pulled a spark plug out and it was dry. I pulled the line off the carb. Tons of fuel to the carb. The gauge shows 9 psi. I thought At that point I may have jumped the timing chain. Pulled it apart and checked. Timing marks line up perfect.
My next step will be to try the old carb since it never gave me a problem. Not saying it is the carb but I feel like I should try
any advice?
