1991 to 1992 camaro z28

Hey guys I’m new to the forum and have a very interesting question that I can’t find a clear answer too. I’m a long time 3rd generation camaro fan and I been looking for a clean one for many years now with reasonable price which is so hard to come by compared to 2008 when you can get them for 5 grand clean low miles lol I should picked one up them. Any ways my question is I been looking for a 91 to 92 anniversary camaro that has t tops and is 350 tpi which I can’t come across. Looks like all the tops where 305 and all the hard tops are 355 why is that. I haven’t see one yet with those options in a 350.

Re: 1991 to 1992 camaro z28

There was a grand total of 0 1991-92 350ci Camaros built with t-tops. Also could not get a 5 speed with the 350ci. While they've gone up a little bit, these cars are still relatively cheap, particularly the 1991-92 cars. If you're looking for a bargain, get a Trans Am/Formula/GTA. You can still get nice ones for a lot less than a similarly equipped Z28/IROC.

Re: 1991 to 1992 camaro z28

why is that
Because that's how they made them. Nobody out here is going to be able to tell you exactly WHY they did that. Best we can do is a bald-faced guess. The usual guess is, the body wasn't strong enough to handle the torque. Somehow I'm not comfortable with that guess though, but it hardly matters, it just is what it is.

Incidentally they weren't "355" from the factory, which is the CID of a 350 (which is STILL a 350) after it has required the first instance of bore maintenance due to wear. They were 350 from the, aka 5.7L.

That said, people do put 350s, at whatever slightly expanded bore dimensions if it has become necessary, into 305 cars. However it's usually done rather poorly; some smogger 70s POS, a TBI motor instead of a TPI one underneath the TPI intake, and so on. I'd be very wary of a 350 swapped car for that reason. The likelihood of getting a 350 that's the same as one that would have come in it had it been available, is pretty low.
