LG4 cam suggestions
Hi Folks.
I have searched this, but did not find a definitive answer(in my mind lol),
I have a 86 Iroc,(Canadian) car,305 non ccc Quadrajet.
Can anyone recommend a mild street cam(,I am in process of exhaust upgrades,by the way.)Otherwise ,bone stock.
I assume,new timing chain,gears,lifters.
Would new springs be in the equation ?
Thanks
Shawn

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: LG4 cam suggestions
The Comp XE256 is well and widely known to be a good match to that engine. Pretty sure you can get a kit from them with the cam, timing set, & lifters. You will DEFINITELY need to change out the springs; pretty sure they have a kit that has the whole deal, in fact. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-k12-234-2

Re: LG4 cam suggestions
I used a K1103 Summit cam and it did pickup a bit of power in my old LG4. The Comp cam Sofa mentions is pretty close to the same grind so should make around same power and would certainly be a better choice in quality I would imagine.

Re: LG4 cam suggestions
Thanks guys,I will look into these.
So can I expect a bit of low end improvement.?
Not to open the old 305 vs 350 discussion, but is the money invested worth the gains? l would like to keep the car as stock as possible, but would like some performance improvement beyond exhaust work.
Thanks
Shawn

Re: LG4 cam suggestions
Get a 350if you are starting to think that way . It wont "look" any different than a 305.Dang sure wont hurt the value of the car if the swap is done correct. I put headers and cam in an LG4 and it was no faster than my old TPI 305 car.
Re: LG4 cam suggestions
That said, it's still a V8 and has that V8 sound. That's what keeps me in the game. When my 350 was in the machine shop, the spare 305 (yes, I had a 305 as a reserve) went into the Camaro with the same headers. I added a performer intake, dropped the Holley on it and drove around like that. Mostly in 2nd gear for reasons you can imagine.
Go for it and enjoy the hobby.

Re: LG4 cam suggestions
Thanks for the tips guys,I get the idea the 350 would be the ticket.
I was thinking of cam work but,I think that money is best spent on a 350.
Im going to install Dyno Dons headers and y,and get rid of the "T" pipe lol, maybe pickup some hps

Re: LG4 cam suggestions
This is a good plan. Do the bolt ons to the 305, which can all be transferred to a 350 at a later date. Leave the internals of the 305 alone and just run it. If you want more power later, then do the 350 swap.
