cam and spring recommendation for stock LG4
2 piece RMS flat tappet rebuild of an otherwise stock 84 LG4 (no KS). Keeping it stock WITH the stock exhaust. Wouldn't mind a little more than the 140ish HP but don't want to compromise driveability and idle quality. This motor will probably only see 20 or so K miles within the next five years. Keeping the ccc-qjet and all emissions. Any recommendations? Was looking at one of the lower duration summit cams kits. Stock cam was worn out

With stock exhaust, yes, a mild Summit cam & lifter set would be fine.
For springs, go to northernautoparts.com, search for "z28 springs". Low-priced, but good quality parts. I used a set with a ZZ4 cam (although that was probably a bit much for them).

Yeah, Summit K1102 kit works well- it's just a scosh more aggressive than a stock L69 cam and I've used it several times in stock-ish 305s. Never in a DEAD STOCK 305 but it definitely will play nice with the cc-QJet system while making noticably more power. You can use it with stock springs under about 5000 RPMs which is all you're going to ever see trying to exhale through the stock LG4 "pea shooter" exhaust system. Upgrade to Comp 981 springs or a cheap set of eBay "Z28" springs as drop-in replacements (no machining required at all) and you'll be good to go up to 6000 RPMs.
If there is ANY way you can see to putting a better exhaust on the car (shortie headers, 3" intermediate, etc.) it will honestly make as much or more difference than the cam will. Combination of the two makes it like a whole different car.

I think Crane makes an L69 replica cam for that motor. The 305 L69 with the same carb and intake made 190 hp.

Cam & lifters for a hundred bucks. Hard to beat.
After break-in, this is a great oil to use with flat tappets: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/hdd.aspx . It's rated for gasoline engines, and has the extra ZZDP that ILSAC GF-4 & GF-5 oils (for current emissions equipment) lack.

Re: cam and spring recommendation for stock LG4
Thanks Guys. I was thinking along Five7's line initially but wanted some feedback. I've got an L69 y-pipe in the shed. I'll keep my eyes open for the rest of the pieces for this one. That's as far as I want to go with this Berlinetta, want to keep it as stock as possible.
It may get the 350 out of my SC within a year or so as that swap to stroker (or whatever) is next on my list - unless another car of sorts shows up. Will definitely need the L69 exhaust then.

You'll probably find the L69 y-pipe won't seal against the LG4 manifolds and not for the reason you're thinking (different size). The outlet angle of the passenger side exhaust manifold is SLIGHTLY different between the LG4 and L69 manifolds. Nothing you will see at a casual glance, but they are different. And, of course, they are also 1/4" different in outlet size as well.
I happen to have a set of L69 exhaust manfolds (with in-tact air tubes and flange studs in perfect condition) in my garage. If you find your y-pope doesn't seal up on those manifolds shoot me an email and I'll sell you mine for cheap.

Re: cam and spring recommendation for stock LG4
Wow. Been some time.
Follow up this:
Put a little over 1000 miles on it since I got it back on the road (near 2 years ago?).
K1101 cam with the z28 springs. Shimmed the springs and removed the rotators. NAPA machine shop guy hooked me up with the shims for next to nothing. Stock exhaust. Only change was the installation of an electric fan assembly (swapped single fan out of 87 for a dual fan assembly, so virtually no cost). Rebuilt the trans, but it went into my 85 TA, which I rebuilt and put into this one with a stock converter for G VIN. 3.08 rear and stock size 14" tires.
Engine is noticeably stronger than prior LG4 and much more pleasant to drive. Idles steady at 600, if I want to keep it that low. No detonation issues with 87 and a few degrees of advance. Mileage is a little lower than expectations at 18-19 mpg. I used to average 22-23 mpg in my 85 TA when it had an LG4, but it had a 2.73 and was probably a hair more aerodynamic. It probably hasn't seen the high side of 4500 rpm the way I drive it, but it's a comfortable ride if a little rattely with the digital dash stuff. Pulls much stronger in the mid-range than any LG4 I've ever driven.
Appreciate the help guys. BTW I gathered the L69 exhaust stuff but wound up putting it on my 85 TA, which is currently getting vortec heads installed in place of the LO5 heads it had. Keeping that cam stock (LO5) though. It's the one that gets the miles put on it.
