Part Identification

I was under my new to me, but which needs a lot of TLC, 83 Camaro fighting a stuck o2 sensor when I noticed two holes on the cover in the pic below. What is under that cover and how should I go about fixing the holes? The pics are from the passenger side. It’s right up against the oil pan.

Re: Part Identification

It's the torque converter cover.

The holes don't really matter. The nice pretty round one at the very bottom in fact is a drain hole.

Looks like you need a can of engine degreaser and a trip to the quarter car wash. A wire brush isn't the right tool for what you're trying to do.

That is the cover that goes over you fly wheel keep stuff from getting wrapped around it and stops stuff from hitting it and bending it . The round 1 is the factory hole to let fluid and water run out. The other is from hitting something. It did its job. I would think your best option is to find a new 1 at junk yard not sure you can weld that thin metal.

Re: Part Identification

Thanks for the info. I never did find a home for the mystery connector. Everything I looked at already had something plugged into it.
As soon as I get this drive-able again, that’s exactly what’s going to happen!
I finished swapping the plugs last night. 4 out of the 8 were loose enough to remove by hand. I had to grind the top inch or so off my 3/8 plug socket to tighten them down due to the proximity of the headers.
I was replacing the front brake pads, which were basically gone, and the drivers side caliper dumped brake fluid from the piston everywhere. I have never purchased a caliper for under $20 before!
The front sway bar was missing one set of links. The other set’s bushings were falling apart.
The brake fluid had chunks of something in the reservoir. There wasn’t any power steering fluid.
I’m honestly shocked I was able to drive it home after purchase.
Once I get the passenger o2 sensor off and replaced I’m going to do the rear brakes. After that replace the coolant overflow tank and flush the coolant. Then maybe start her back up and see if what happens. There is a PS fluid leak that needs to be addressed as well at some point.
