Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
1991 Camaro Z28 5.7 L w/700R4 Trans. Car sat in the garage for 6 years- trans went out & wouldn't start either. I removed everything except the motor on the underside of the car. Replaced fuel tank, fuel pump, rubber hoses, rebuilt transmission, spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor, new oil, filter & coolant. Tried to start the engine- turns over, won’t start. Sprayed throttle body cleaner & starts for a second. Checked fuel pressure at rail - found fuel pressure regulator was bad. Replaced. Pressure @ rail is 44 lbs. Still no start. Checked injectors for electric pulse- test node blinks as expected. Checked ohms of each injector- 16.5 on all. Pulled plugs- no fuel on plugs. Could all injectors be faulty??? What else have I missed to test or check?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Car sat for 6 years, gasoline gets old, clogs tiny holes so yes, all injectors could be bad. Especially if those are originals. You might be able to have them professionally cleaned or just get a set of delphi replacements. Fuel rail could also be a bit cruded up on the inside but your likely suspect is injectors.
Ok thanks for confirming what I was thinking! I have never seen all injectors go bad at once, so I didn't want to replace parts that may not need replacing. I did replace them once before but never have let it sit without running for so long. I will buy new injectors and post the results. Any suggestions on injectors? Should I stick with OEM injectors or go with upgraded aftermarket? What brands are best? Would a higher Lbs/hr injector be better (more than the stock 22 lb/hr)??

Thank you for the info @ Tuned Performance!! I called Southbay and ordered the Delphi injectors. I got to talking with the guy on the phone and he is also a member of ThirdGen.org! He said that as a member of the Forum you get 10% off any purchase with them! Thanks for the tip!! I will follow with a post when I get the injectors installed next week. Thanks again to everyone for all the input!!
I got the new Delphi injectors from Southbay Injectors & installed them. (Thank you, Tuned Performance) I also removed the throttle body, cleaned it up and replaced all the gaskets. She fired right up like it had been driven all along. So, lesson learned.... sitting in garage for 6 years untouched, moved or started will clog the injectors!! Thank you to everyone for the info. Can't wait to drive it now!!!
I installed the injectors. No issues with installation. My Camaro runs great now!!! Although I did call Southbay Injectors for confirmation on the injector clips. The old (original) injectors had the clips on the injectors to hold them into the fuel rail (mainly for installation). The new ones (Delphi) did not have the proper groove for the clips to fit. It was not an issue, I snapped the injectors into the fuel rail and carefully set the fuel rail & injectors into position on the intake. Just be careful so the injectors don't fall out of the fuel rail during installation. Once they injectors were in place, I installed the bolts to the fuel rail & pressed down on the injectors to seat them in the intake manifold. Easy installation. I suggest using some engine oil on the rubber o-rings of the injectors to help with installation. The guy at Southbay Injectors also suggested using liquid dishsoap on the o-rings for installation.
Update- my 1991 Camaro Z28 is finally on the road!!! Thank you to all of you for the replies to my issue. It was in fact the injectors. I replaced them and cleaned the throttle body & changed the gaskets (5 piece kit includes the EGR gasket). Started right up on the first try after sitting for 6 years!!!!
I ultimately bought the Delphi injectors for my ‘88 L98.
They cost a bit more than the Bosch 3, but I’ve had zero drivability issues. The only minor complaint I have is they’re slightly noisier than the Rochester injectors that were originally on my car.
