Serious Misfire?
Serious Misfire?
I recently bought my dream car, a 92’ Firebird with the 305 TBI V8. It’s ran like a dream for a couple months. One morning I went to start the car and it started to turnover but failed. I went to start it again and it would do nothing but crank even with the gas pedal to the floor. I could hear the fuel pump doing it’s thing and I could smell the gas. So I’ve replaced the entire ignition system.
Spark plugs (AC Delco Rapid fires)
wires (Duralast)
cap and rotor (Duralast)
And a bunch of little things, oil pressure switch, thermostat, etc. (Duralast)
Now the vehicle starts and runs but not the way it used to. The symptoms are
the exhaust has a very strong gas smell
Sometimes there’s a loud pop upon startup coming from the engine bay.
the car shakes on idle however RPMs seem normal if not a little high. Up to 1k rpm. When you try to drive the car it’s very obvious that there’s a cylinder out or something. Absolutely no power and the car shakes on acceleration. I was told when I bought the plugs that they were gapped for .35 but when I measured them they were more like .4. Im not sure if that would have anything to do with it. Like I said the car ran like a dream before the day before it didn’t start. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I will gladly post a video of symptoms if needed.

Re: Serious Misfire?
Unplug injectors one at a time till you identify which cylinders are not contributing. Then determine if that cylinder is losing fuel or spark or compression. Wouldn't be a bad idea to check compression just so you know you aren't dealing with a broken valve spring, etc.
