Tq Converter Recommendation?

Installing Stealth Ram, AFR 195 heads, and Com 280 XFI HR13 cam on my 350cid. Was looking at some different stall converters around 2400-2500 stall. Which one is best for street/strip setup 10" or 12" in 700R4? Lot's of options but I know people have tried a bunch of them on here with different opinions.

Look for a 9.5" 245mm diameter converter with lockup... Minimum 3000 stall.

I'll second that. Had a 9.8:1, 355 with StealthRam and a 268/276 - 218/228 - 110 cam with a 10" TH350 converter that stalled right at 3,000 rpm. It actually needed a little more stall speed than that for better drag strip performance. Unless you're running a lot more compression, that XFI280-HR13 won't make as much torque at 3K than what I was running. The problem I've seen though is unless you get a good (higher priced usually) converter, you MIGHT need to upgrade the cooling system if running much more than a 3200 converter.

I have an Edge street converter and highly recommend them. It’s a 3500 stall 9.5” lockup converter that drives relatively close to stock at low throttle input, unlike the cheap Jeg’s converter I had before. They’ll take your engine and vehicle information and build the converter to match.

Definetly 10" or smaller.

Another vote for 10" and lock-up

Re: Tq Converter Recommendation?

Ok I think it is unanimous enough I'm going to go with a 9.5-10" 3000 stall converter. Eventually this car will have a 355-383cid in it at a minimum 10:1 CR. So I will see how the 3000 behaves as a street/strip setup. Thanks everyone for the info.
