Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
I used to keep a set of edelbrock tes headers on while swapping on an AC car. The ac box is the toughest place to clear. I have no idea if it'll clear with those hedmans though.
You can try it. If it doesn't work then it's not really a big deal to correct it.
I think you'll find the installation easier without the headers. Even if its to get access to the engine mounts. I tend to drop the engine in without headers ,starter or power steering. It makes the lump more manageable when hanging from the engine crane.
Put the engine in the bay without the headers
While still on the engine picker, then install the headers moving the engine up a little , or side to side.
I install it with SLP headers on and rad/fans still in.. Normally leave the hood on to but in this case was putting on a aluminum hood so off the hood came..
There may or may not be a few "success" stories of doing it with them on,. but, ... generally, not. Lay the headers in the chassis, drop the motor in, hook up the headers, like everybody else. No real benefit to trying to defeat history in any case. Too eeeeeezzzzzy to just do it the right way and be done with it. Particularly if the steering and evap housing are still in it.
If your putting it in from the bottom it works well to have the headers on but dropping it in from the top it's easiest to lay them on the chassis and drop the motor in.
