I just started it up let if get hot ideling 10mins and got some new valve cover gaskets trying to fix a leak
the driver side bank had oil going through
the passenger bank has nothing
was totally dry
Should I take the valve cover off and let if run rev it untill oil cokes out
it used to have oil
I have full oil pressure in the car
I was gonna drive it 50miles and lightly break it in
can you help me

Do not run your engine without oil. Figure out why it is not getting oil to the passenger side of the motor. I am not familiar with oldschool sbc's, but is there a diverter valve somewhere in the oil galleries that was forgotten during the engine build? You are obviously making pressure at the oil pump, so that isn't your issue. Start from there and work your way out

I told you I left the engine in the car
Honed it and put new rings new rod bearings and gaskets
and before everything was fine it had oil
Maybe I have a loose rocker or pushrod
it doesn't tap or click

Id assume your pushrods are hollow? Check to see if they are gummed up, they were gummed up on 2 of 16 on my 6.0LS. I don't like the idea of honing the cylinders with the engine in the car, you are introducing a TON of metallic debris into the engine. How did you go about determining only one side of the engine was getting oil?

and the engine ran I had to do a idel valve adjust and oil pours out
both sides had lots of oil
and I have brand new 1 year old summit hardner pushrods
I'm gonna take the valve cover off and start it up and watch it like a hawk and
I think it's full of air
I may rev it up to 1500 for a min
and I can pour some oil in it to
I think it's just full of air

Re: 88 gta question need help after rebuild
Where is oil pouring from? There should be no oil leaks internally or externally. You said that you previously ran the engine right after the rebuild for 10 minutes, and still had no oil to one side of the engine. The whole engine should get oil within seconds after startup. Did you prime the oil pump? If you are still not getting oil after 10 minutes you may already have engine damage...

Re: 88 gta question need help after rebuild
I just went out and looked and it's full of oil
it was just air
it took time to get there
so I'm happy
don't worry
it's good
I'm just checking for leaks with the new gaskets
I was paranoid for nothing
lol
