02 sensor function?

So I have a 1983 trans am with holly carb and emissions stuff deleted. While installing a new intake on the sbc 305 I noticed my o2 sensor wire had been ripped out in the process, and I'm honestly not sure what the 02 sensor even does with the factory q jet being uninstalled, or if its even worth my time replacing.

Re: 02 sensor function?

It's not doing anything if the emission controls and computer-controlled carb & distributor have been removed...

Re: 02 sensor function?

Thats what I figured, so would it hurt anything if I were to just delete it all together, I'm planning on getting headers for the car anyway.
