Random connector

I have an 87 IROC, 305 TPI. I was swapping out the distributor cap/rotor/coil/ICM and noticed this unplugged connector over near the driver's side firewall. Any idea what it is for and where it should be plugged in to? Thanks!

Re: Random connector

Can't see the wires. What color are they?

If they're a pnk/blk and a blk/wht, then it's the legendary "mystery" connector. Since those 2 colors of wires are +12V and ground, my best guess is that the factory used it as the place to apply power easily to the electronic system, to test the operation of the ECM, solenoids, sensors, etc. during engine and/or vehicle assembly, before the whole shebang was connected to a completed car.

Once installed in the car, it goes nowhere.
