finally found my dream car

After looking and looking I finally found my dream car. Finally picked up the ROC yesterday. here is my find
88 IROC (305, TPI)
Black w/gold pinstripes and wheels
black and grey interior
T-tops
original radio
The car is totally stock, original paint job in Excellent condition
and get this 28,000 original miles!!!!! (it's also a certified used car)
out side of a few minor scratches on the bumper, one mirror, two bulbs needing replaced, and the rims being alittle tore up the car looks like it came off the show room floor. (doesn't even have tint on the windows!!!)
Ok my question is now that i have it what do i do now?
I want to increase HP and performance, but I don't want to go crazy and I want to leave it mostly stock, were do i start.
thanks
Bikertrash
oh I'll be posting some pics later this weekend. (trying)

Good for you man! Great find! It took me a hell of a long time to find my dream, I was very picky, long story (but I don't want to get into it, others here might know bout my story tho). I would suggest mods that don't make your car look unstock. Like K&N filters, get a catback (flowmaster) even though it wouldn't look stock atleast its rather low profile, how bout ram air, I got that, no one would know unless I said so. I got 170,xxx miles, and mine doesnt have tint either .

Congrats!
Agreed on the exhaust and filters. If you are mechanically capable, port the intake and plenum. What about the suspension? Even though it has low miles, the rubber bushings are 15 years old and probably getting dry-rot. Upgrade the suspension with some poly bushings and maybe a some better lower control arms. Also make sure it still does not have the orignal cap, rotor and wires. Even though they have low miles, probably time to replace them also.
Good find broh!

I would go with what is already mentioned but get the Hooker aerochamber muffler instead of flowmaster. It sounds better. Listen to mark shields sound clip..I think you'll like it.

ya I agree with everbody else. also think about maybe some MSD ignition stuff. I currently don't have any on my car but I plan to soon. also an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I've heard that helps a ton, one more thing I'm gonna do in the near future. ;-) also and this isn't about power, but put in a 180deg thermostat and a jet fan switch. it'll keep your car running about 200deg in town, which is alot better than 225:-)

thanks for the advice

right now I'm going to start with the little cosmetic stuff to get it just right (don't have far to go) when i get that just right then I'd start on modifying the engine. I put in the cd player on monday, the hatch shocks need replacing, the light bulbs and tint the windows. where can i get a pull over vinal cover for the "trunk" area?
I am going to have my mechanic do a twice over on it and crawl under the car and see what he can see. it still needs a real good coat of wax to preserve the paint, I can begin to see some oxidation if i look VERY close.
price? well when i begain looking for a IROC I set a limit for my self of $4500, seemed reasonable, I looked at alot of different cars (about 12) and none of them caught my fancy. I also told myself that I wanted a 350 w/t-tops. I got tired of looking and this one came up. I had to drive to a import used car dealership (nothing but BMWs, Jags, and porchces(sp) 150 miles away.
after TTL it came up to just over $6,500. more than I wanted to pay originaly, but hell, I couldn't pass it up.

A 14-year-old car with 28,000 miles.... hmmmmm...... I'd check that real close before biting on that kind of $$$. That's only 2000 miles a year, which sounds like a fish story to me. There should be no sign of leaks, the pedals should look like they've never had a foot on them, the carpet under the pedals should be perfect, the driver's seat and the steering wheel should have no wear whatsoever, etc. I'd be willing to bet money it's got 128,000 on it, unless I could check with the original owner or something.

RB83L69 has a point. Do a carfax check (or whatever its called). That car should be in perfect condition! If it's right then that wasn't that bad a price...although thats not something I would have done.

guys are right....

....I thought long and hard before i did bite. I didn't want to spend more than $4500 for a car, but I have no regrets. really the car is 98% mint. I want to say the paint is original. it is in excellent condition but it doesn't look brand new, if you understand what i am trying to say. there is long scratch on the back bumper and some scratches and paint chips on the right side mirror. rims are in very good condition, the right front has the standard scuff marks on it. the interior is mint. no wear at all on the seats, carpet, dash, console, shifter, or wheel, the seat belts retract smooth and fast. it has the original delco tape deck (not for long) the doors have no sag, only slightly harder to close than a normal car door. the auto windows go up and down smooth and at the same speed, there are no scuff marks on the front spoiler at all. the gold pin strips are peeling at one or two parts (very small). it all says original and not weather beaten. the outside just does not look "new" like someone repainted it last year. If someone would have redone the interior then they did an excellent, profesonal job.
the engine is strong, smooth and straight. zero lean, steering wheel is straight it does not wander one bit. I can not say how much i love this car, everyone that has seen it has commented on the looks and condition.
I was going to take some pics today but it was raining cats and dogs outside all day long. monday looks like it will be the day.

I would put full exhaust headers back. I'd recommend the Hooker cat-back, SLP makes the best headers but they're pricey. And do a tune up.

hey T

I'm right off of Macgruder drive, if i step out of my apt i can hear the cars running at Langley speedway, I love that sound!!!
any way, when did you buy your car? not bad 84K. the lowest mile car I looked at was a 87 with 77K (350 w/T-tops) it needed about $500 worth of engine work to make it pass inspection, plus the rear tires were bald, and not from normal wear and tear and no a/c. The guy would not budge below $4200
what about you? were you at?

i live right behind new market mall or whats left of it, sears, verison, west. i didnt have a ton of time to look at cars when i bought mine but this was the best one i found, when its cleaned up, fresh wax you know, i get complements on it. it looks good but any car that is over 10 yrs old needs something. if you see it you will like it, actually you probably have seen it.

i'm a former professional detailer/buffer. i buffed/touched up and detailed cars for a few yrs. we should get together and look at those scratches. i have a buffer now, not a makita like i would like but for 300 bucks to use it once or twice a yr just doesnt make sense. i'm a little under practiced but i can pull scratches with a buffer still, finding decent compound around here is a pain though.
