My project car stopped starting

I've been on this forum many times it seems to be a really great resource so I made an account today. So this is my 1991 Camaro RS bone stock with not much fun stuff yet. It's got over 200k miles on it original engine and trans. It was a daily driver for a long time and sat in my driveway since 2005. She needs a lot of work but that doesnt bother me in the slightest. Its now my car and I have big plans but I want to get it running as is for now. The car did run and drive for the past 10 years but just within the last year doesnt want to start and when it does it stalls out. It seems to have no or very little fuel pressure. When I cycle the key I cannot hear the pump prime. My assumption is either the pump is dead or the relay is bad. I checked the fuse in the fender and it wasnt blown. Anyone know the easiest way to check the relay or anything else i could possibly check before I drop the tank? Another question I have though. If the fuel pump is dead, wouldn't it never start? As it sits, it will start after siting for a while. Thanks for any help.

-Nick

FYI I have a v8 im going to build for it as well as a T5 out of a parted out camaro >

Get someone to help you listen for the pump when you first key on to hear it prime. You should here it prime regardless. When you key on, your relay should get power to open power circuit to pump. If your not sure how to check the relay and which relay, search - tons of vids that will spoon feed each step. If the pump isn't working, or the relay (or even both), stop right there and fix. If so, verify your fuel pressure, not it seems like, etc. get a pressure gauge at the Chinese resale shop, put it on and verify. Easy and cheap. Low or no pressure, could be pump going out, clogged filter, etc. Remember, you basically need 3 things to make that fire up. If all this pans out on the fuel, you only need to check 2 more things.

Okay so I definitely cannot hear the fuel pump priming. I had someone turn the key and i went back and listened and heard nothing. At this point I can only assume the pump is completely dead or that it's not getting power. I have yet to test the fuel pressure but I will do that to make sure. I'm going to do my best to confirm the pump either is or isn't getting power, if i can surely say that it is getting power then I'm going to put the car on the lift and drop the tank and throw in a fully new fuel pump hanger assembly. The filter and strainer are probably clogged after all these years anyway. I am 99.99% there's no problem with the ignition system because the car will run off of starting fluid. Regardless at some point before I put that car back on the road I will probably replace the cap, rotor, spark plugs, and the lightning hoses. Ideally I want the car to just be derivable this summer as it is. Then I can start working on fun stuff later on.

I would be looking into injectors too after sitting that long. No reason you can't be driving it relatively soon. Get the power to the pump checked, and I would get a pump for it regardless. It is not as bad of a job as people make it out to be, just not that fun wrestling the tank in and out by yourself is all. Go through it and replace the things needed (pump, injectors, filter, maybe regulator, and possibly the relay) that you have mentioned, but I would guess that it will be drivable as soon as you have fuel. GL!
