If you're questioning the fuel pump then check your fuel pressure. Start at the basics and investigate

All the cables should be fairly taut, so that's one issue but not related to your running issue, as the engine should start and run by itself with no pedal assist. I would also start by checking fuel pressure. Is the SES light on? If so, get the codes.
