83 Z28 Crossfire 3 Blade Oil Sending Unit

Long story short i misplaced my oil sending unit that is located on driver side back of intake after replacing intake gaskets. It is the 3 blade style sending unit. My question is can i plug it and start the car. I have a new one ordered but it is going to be a few days before it gets here. I heard that it might not start since it thinks there is no oil pressure. Ive also heard its just a backup if the fuel relay goes bad.

The oil pressure switch does not have to be connected to run the engine. This is NOT a Ford.
