Weiand 142 blower installation complete!
No, it's not in a 3rd gen but it's a very similar installation putting one in my 78 Malibu.
Before you click remember that this is only $1500 for the blower, 7 hours of time invested, $100 in odds-n-ends parts and you'll need a 4" cowl hood to clear it. Other than that.................

Sorry the engine bay's real grungy. Imagine if it was cleaned up a little.

To hell with the grunge man, hotrods don't *have* to loook pretty to go fast.
Wouldn't Gram's be suprised?
Is that the new price of the blower? How much HP is it good for?
Always what the "142" etc, meant for the blowers, can you explain?

Yes, Grandma would be VERY surprised to find that I had TRIPLED the horsepower of her grocery getter. I came originally with a wheezing 305 2bbl motor good for 155HP. $1500 is the price of the blower kit new from Summit. Way cheaper than your average centrifugal blower kit and MUCH easier to install on a carbureted application. And here's the part I like the most: It makes full boost from the instant the pedal hits the carpet! You don't have to wind the engine way up to make boost like you do with a centrifugal blower. Can you say "torque"?
It's now going to be up around 450HP. It was an honest 350 before the blower. I'm only going to be running about 4-5 lbs of boost, to be on the safe side. I'll get another set of pulleys for it later to make 8 lbs but only when I'm running high octane fuel.
Interesting question about the 142. What it means is that the supercharger moves 142ci of air per revolution. Basically it would be the equivalent of a "2-71" blower using more traditional supercharger ratings. Unlike most other roots-style superchargers that are underdriven below 1:1, the little 142 is OVERdriven at almost 2:1.
So it's moving 284ci per engine revolution. A 350ci engine breathes 1/2 it's displacement per revolution or 175ci (intake only happens every other revolution). You can see that even this little blower is trying to cram a LOT more air into a motor than would ordinarily go in there.
Now if only the snow would melt I might actually be able to go drive this thing!
