Tall valve covers.....short valve covers....WHATS THE DIFFERANCE!!???!!!

ok,,, i thought valve covers didnt do anything but shield the componets of the heads and recylce the oil that is being thrown around in there (correct me if im wrong)...i was looking for some for my car just to make the engine look a little better, then i ran into the short and tall problem. i was reading about the talls,,, and they ALL say "not for cars that have to pass emissions"...but the short ones are fine for emissions....WHATS THE DIFFERANCE IN THEM??? i know that ones taller than the other...no $h*t.....but what can a extra inch do to your emissions?

Also taller valve covers, allow more room under them. Allows more clearance for performance parts I believe.

Tall valve covers are a necessity for use with stud girdles or some roller rockers but sometimes valve cover spacers can be used
