Hood Seal
Hood Seal
If I was to remove the rubber seal on the back of my hood, i know water could get in, but would it under normal conditions? Wouould it be a problem, or would it just drain away. I ask because my engine runs hot. Really hot. fan dont turn on till like 240*. I plan on putting a 200* fan switch in w/ a 180* thermo soon, but if removing the hood seal wouldnt create a problem, i would like the hot air to have a place to leave. Thanx
Well, I wouldnt expect coolant temp to go down any amount, but I would expect it to help accessories extend thier life, and if there was no neg. side effects, its real easy and all.... Just was wondering. Although I would rather NOT learn the hard way why GM put that seal there...
The amount of turbulance in the area of the seal is great, so removing it will cause a little more air, cool air, to flow through the compartment. Its not going to help you though. I have mine removed for a diffrent reason. Its been gone for over a year. I live in Florida with huge thunderstorms, and I've never had a problem.

Well, I know why its running hot (Sorta). My fan dont come on till it gets to 240*-250* now, ui beleive thats the back-up fan run by some sorta thermostat switch unit. I beleive also that the ECM should turn on the fan when it reachs 228* (or something close ot that). I beleive that the ECM is not getting a good temp reading. I think its only getting an intermittent signal from the CTS b/c after a good while (maybe 15min?) of driving the SES light comes on, and its a code 15. I have the AC delco replacement fer the CTS plug, theres a brand new CTS in there. I think I bend the receptors in the plug when I jumpered it out to tect the wiring. Basically, I gotta find time to splice in the new plug...then I shall see what my problem is.
